These Tibetan Turquoise cabochons are a classic 6mm round with a low-profile 2..5 - 3.5mm height. Unlike the bright robin's-egg blue of Persian turquoise, Tibetan specimens are prized for their unique organic character, typically featuring deeper teal-to-green tones and a distinctive dark brown or black spiderweb matrix. These are perfect for dainty jewelry designs, offering a subtle, flat-to-domed surface that sits comfortably against the skin.

Its petite size and earthy, antique aesthetic make it an ideal choice for stacking rings, delicate stud earrings, or as a vibrant accent in a mixed-gemstone boho pendant.

Key Properties & Care

Tibetan Turquoise is a phosphate mineral that is naturally porous. It is often celebrated as a stone of protection, but it requires specific care to maintain its natural color and structural integrity.

  • Mohs Hardness: Ranges from 5 to 6. Turquoise is a relatively soft stone that can be scratched by household dust (which contains quartz) and harder gemstones like Quartz (7), Topaz (8), and Sapphires (9).

  • Cleaning: Clean only with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Never use soap, ultrasonic cleaners, or steam cleaners. Because turquoise is porous, it can absorb liquids, which may cause the stone to change color or deteriorate over time.

  • Maintenance:

    • Pore Protection: Avoid contact with skin oils, lotions, perfumes, and hairsprays. These can seep into the stone and gradually shift its color from blue-green to a duller yellowish-green.

    • Heat Sensitivity: High heat can cause the stone to crack or discolor. Always remove turquoise jewelry before using a hair dryer, cooking over high heat, or doing any soldering near the stone.

    • Chemical Stability: Avoid all household chemicals and chlorinated water.

  • Storage: Store this cabochon in a separate soft pouch or a lined jewelry box. Because it is a softer stone, it should be kept away from CZs (8.5) and Sapphires (9) to prevent the polished surface from being scratched.
