Sapphire Slices - Natural

These two rough Sapphire Slices are truly unique, offering a raw and architectural take on the world’s most durable gemstone. Available in two substantial sizes—13.2mm by 10.2mm (2.6mm high) and 11.6mm by 9.9mm (2.3mm high)—these slices retain their natural rough edges and freeform, organic silhouettes. Unlike traditional faceted gems, these "slices" highlight the internal crystalline structures and color zoning of the raw sapphire, polished on the flat surfaces to reveal a glassy, vitreous luster while keeping their rugged, "from the earth" character.

Their low-profile height and "one-of-a-kind" shapes make them perfect for contemporary, artisanal designs, such as rustic bezel-set pendants, industrial-style earrings, or "raw luxury" statement rings.

Key Properties & Care

Even in this organic, sliced form, these are true Corundum (Sapphire), meaning they possess the legendary toughness and longevity of the species.

• Mohs Hardness: These slices have a hardness of 9. Despite their delicate appearance, they are extremely scratch-resistant. However, because they are thin (2.3mm–2.6mm) and have rough, irregular edges, they should be handled with care to avoid putting pressure on any natural "fissures" or thin points in the stone.

• Cleaning: To keep the internal inclusions and colors visible, clean them regularly with lukewarm soapy water and a soft brush. These slices are safe for ultrasonic cleaners, but use caution with steam cleaners; sudden heat can stress natural "healed" fractures often found in raw slices.

• Maintenance:

  • Setting Recommendation: Due to the rough edges and thin profile, these stones are best suited for custom bezel settings or "claw" settings that wrap around the perimeter to protect the organic edges from catching on fabrics.

  • Visual Texture: The "interesting shapes" often reveal natural color zoning (parti-colors) and silk inclusions. These are not flaws but are the hallmark of natural, untreated sapphire.

  • Chemical Stability: Like all sapphires, these slices are unaffected by perfumes, household cleaners, or chlorine.

• Storage: Because these slices are so hard and have irregular, potentially sharp edges, they will easily scratch other gemstones. Store them in individual soft pouches to ensure they don't rub against other gems.
