This stunning Aquamarine is cut into a classic 8.9mm by 7mm oval with a 4.8mm height. As the blue-to-blue-green variety of the Beryl family, this stone possesses the iconic "sea-water" clarity and cool, tranquil tones for which it is named. The 4.8mm depth is perfectly balanced for an 8.9mm length, providing enough volume to showcase the stone's characteristic vitreous luster and crisp, watery brilliance without being overly bulky in a setting.

Its generous size and serene color make it an ideal choice for a sophisticated "something blue" engagement ring, a serene solitaire pendant, or a centerpiece in a cool-toned white gold or platinum design.

Key Properties & Care

Like its sister stone Morganite, Aquamarine is a durable gemstone, but its high clarity means that even a small amount of dirt can be visible through the facets.

  • Mohs Hardness: Aquamarine has a hardness of 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale. It is a hard, scratch-resistant gemstone suitable for daily jewelry, though it should be protected from hard knocks.

  • Cleaning: To keep that signature "crystal clear" look, clean your Aquamarine regularly with lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub behind the stone where skin oils and hand soaps tend to accumulate and "cloud" the blue hue.

  • Maintenance:

    • Clarity Awareness: Aquamarine is often exceptionally clear. Because it is so transparent, any grime on the pavilion (the bottom of the stone) will act like a dark film, making the stone look grey or dull.

    • Avoid High Heat: Steer clear of steam cleaners. Like all beryls, Aquamarine can be sensitive to thermal shock, which can cause internal fractures or "cleavage" lines.

    • Chemical Exposure: While generally hardy, it is best to remove your stone before using harsh household chemicals or entering chlorinated swimming pools.

  • Storage: Store in a separate soft pouch. With a hardness of 8, it is tougher than Quartz, Tourmaline, and Opal, but it should be stored away from Sapphires (9) and Cubic Zirconia (8.5) to prevent the harder stones from scratching its surface.
