Banded Agate

This exceptional one-off Banded Agate cabochon measures approximately 37.3mm by 23.7mm with a beautifully domed height of around 6.7mm, creating an elegant statement stone with incredible visual depth.

Unlike warmer-toned agates, this striking specimen features flowing layers of smoky grey, soft charcoal, translucent cream, and semi-clear banding that ripple organically through the stone like drifting mist or geological contour lines. The interplay between opaque and translucent layers gives the cabochon a subtle, almost atmospheric quality, with light softly illuminating the clearer bands from within.

Mohs Hardness: Banded Agate has a hardness of approximately 6.5 to 7, making it a sturdy gemstone that is resistant to most everyday scratching and wear.

Cleaning: This stone is easy to maintain and can be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or brush. Ultrasonic cleaners are generally safe for solid agates, though gentle hand cleaning is recommended. Avoid rapid temperature changes and steam cleaning.

Maintenance:
Durability: Agate is non-porous, chemically stable, and highly durable, making it an excellent choice for both statement and everyday jewellery pieces.
Surface Finish: Its microcrystalline structure allows for a high, glassy polish that enhances the contrast between translucent and opaque bands while maintaining its shine for years.
