This one-of-a-kind Banded Agate teardrop cabochon measures approximately 30mm by 20.5mm with a softly domed height of around 6mm, creating a bold, statement-sized gemstone full of incredible natural detail.

Rich swirling bands of warm red, golden yellow, cream, and soft earthy tones flow through the stone in intricate organic patterns, with many pieces featuring striking floral or plume-like formations that resemble blooming petals, desert landscapes, or painterly brushstrokes captured in stone.

The large teardrop shape provides a dramatic canvas for these naturally occurring designs, making these agates especially well suited to statement pendants, showcase brooches, or substantial artisan rings where the stone can truly become the focal point. The smooth high polish enhances the depth and movement within the banding, while the warm palette pairs beautifully with sterling silver, brass, bronze, or yellow gold settings.

Key Properties & Care

Agate is a banded variety of Chalcedony (Quartz), valued for its durability, rich natural patterns, and excellent wearability in jewellery.

Mohs Hardness: Banded Agate has a hardness of approximately 6.5 to 7, making it a durable and reliable choice for jewellery that may experience regular wear.

Cleaning: Agate is very easy to care for and can be cleaned using warm soapy water and a soft cloth or brush. Ultrasonic cleaners are generally safe for solid agates, though gentle manual cleaning is usually more than sufficient. Avoid sudden temperature changes or steam cleaning.

Maintenance:
Durability: Agate is non-porous, chemically stable, and highly resistant to everyday scratching and wear. Its toughness makes it an excellent option for both decorative and wearable jewellery pieces.
Surface Finish: The microcrystalline structure of agate allows it to achieve a beautifully glossy polish that holds its shine exceptionally well over time.
Storage: While Agate is relatively hard, it can still be scratched by harder gemstones such as Sapphire or Diamond. Store separately in a soft pouch or lined box to preserve the polished surface.
