These beautiful Blue Zircon gemstones measure approximately 8mm by 7mm with a depth of around 5.4mm, and are cut into an unusual softly squared oval shape that combines the elegance of a traditional oval with the clean symmetry of a cushion-style cut. Sold as a matching pair, they display the vivid brilliance and lively sparkle that make natural Zircon such a prized gemstone.
The stones feature rich oceanic blue tones, with exceptional light return and fire that gives them remarkable movement in changing light. Their faceted cut creates intense sparkle and depth, while the softly squared outline gives them a slightly modern, structured appearance without losing the softness of an oval silhouette.
Their balanced proportions and matching shape make them ideal for statement earrings, but they would also suit a coordinated ring-and-pendant set or bespoke jewellery designs where a pair of vibrant, high-sparkle gemstones is desired. Blue Zircon pairs beautifully with white metals such as sterling silver or white gold, though yellow gold settings can create a striking vintage-inspired contrast.
Key Properties & Care
Blue Zircon is a natural gemstone prized for its extraordinary brilliance, strong light dispersion, and vibrant colour. It should not be confused with Cubic Zirconia, which is a synthetic material.
Mohs Hardness: Natural Zircon has a hardness of approximately 6 to 7.5. While durable enough for jewellery, it is somewhat brittle and should be handled with care to avoid chipping.
Cleaning: Clean gently using warm soapy water and a soft cloth or brush. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaning, and sudden temperature changes, as Zircon can be sensitive to heat and vibration.
Maintenance:
Durability: Zircon’s facet edges can abrade or chip if knocked sharply, particularly in exposed settings such as rings. Earrings and pendants are generally lower-risk applications.
Surface Finish: The faceted cut maximises the stone’s exceptional fire and brilliance, producing vivid flashes of light and colour even in lower lighting conditions.
Storage: Store separately in a soft pouch or lined jewellery box to protect the facets from scratches and contact with harder gemstones.
