Cubic Zirconia - also known as CZ is a synthetic stone (meaning created in a lab, not mined from the earth). It is very similar to diamond in it's structure and appearance - but not in price!
These stones are great to practice faceted setting on as they are super cheap and durable. They can be used to cast-in-place, although they might change colour or "craze". Crazing is where the stone appears to be shattered inside, but they tend to maintain their external integrity.
