This striking Labradorite teardrop cabochon measures approximately 14mm by 10mm with a generous domed height of around 6mm, giving it a beautifully sculptural appearance that enhances the famous flashes of colour. At first glance the stone may appear smoky grey or deep charcoal, but as it catches the light it reveals vivid iridescent flashes of electric blue, teal, gold, green, or even hints of violet. This captivating optical phenomenon, known as labradorescence, gives Labradorite its mysterious, otherworldly quality and ensures that every stone feels completely unique.

These cabochons are ideal for bold artisan jewellery, celestial-inspired pieces, or designs that celebrate the raw beauty of natural gemstones. Labradorite pairs especially beautifully with sterling silver, oxidised finishes, and organic textures that complement its moody, magical aesthetic.

Key Properties & Care

Labradorite is a Feldspar mineral prized for its dramatic flashes of colour and shifting internal light effects.

Mohs Hardness: Labradorite has a hardness of approximately 6 to 6.5. It is suitable for jewellery use but is softer than Quartz, so some care should be taken to avoid scratches and heavy impact.

Cleaning: Clean gently with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or brush. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaning, and harsh chemicals, as temperature shock or strong vibrations may damage the stone.

Maintenance:
Durability: Labradorite has natural cleavage planes that can make it vulnerable to chipping if knocked sharply, particularly around pointed edges like the tip of a teardrop shape. Protective settings are recommended for rings or everyday-wear pieces.
Surface Finish: The polished cabochon surface enhances the stone’s labradorescence, allowing flashes of colour to move dramatically across the surface in changing light.
Storage: Store separately in a soft pouch or lined jewellery box to protect both the polished surface and the delicate flash from scratches caused by harder gemstones or metals.
