Rainbow Moonstone - Oval

This luminous Rainbow Moonstone cabochon is cut into an elongated oval shape, measuring approximately 20mm by 12mm with a beautifully domed height of around 5.7mm.

The stone itself is exceptionally clear, with one black fleck on top, allowing light to travel deeply through the crystal and reveal spectacular flashes of rainbow iridescence. As the stone moves, flashes of electric blue, soft violet, gold, and occasionally green shimmer across the surface, creating the signature adularescence effect Moonstone is so loved for - but with an added kaleidoscopic intensity in these particularly high-quality pieces.

The generous dome enhances both the depth and movement of the internal flash, making the colour play feel almost suspended within the stone. This shape is especially striking in contemporary statement rings, unique pendants, or artisan jewellery designs where the geometry of the cut becomes part of the overall aesthetic.

Rainbow Moonstone is a variety of Feldspar known for its glowing optical effect and ethereal, shifting internal colour play.

Mohs Hardness: Rainbow Moonstone has a hardness of approximately 6 to 6.5, making it suitable for jewellery but requiring a little extra care compared to harder gemstones.

Cleaning: Clean gently with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or brush. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaning, and harsh chemicals, as Moonstone can be sensitive to heat, vibration, and sudden temperature changes.

Maintenance:
Durability: Moonstone has natural internal cleavage, meaning it can be prone to chipping or cracking if struck sharply. Protective settings are recommended, especially for rings or frequently worn pieces.
Surface Finish: The highly polished surface enhances the clarity and allows the rainbow flashes to shift dramatically as the stone moves in the light.
