Bring a little natural character to your pottery practice with these handmade wooden ribs, crafted in Aotearoa from recycled rimu. Each rib has its own unique grain, colour and tone, with natural variations in the wood making every piece slightly different. These are practical studio tools with a lovely tactile quality, combining the warmth of native timber with the functionality potters need at the wheel and workbench.

Wooden ribs are versatile tools for shaping, smoothing and refining clay. Use them to compress and tidy surfaces, develop curves, refine profiles and create clean, flowing forms. They're particularly useful for wheel-thrown pottery, but can also be used for hand-building and sculptural work. Different shapes offer different ways to support the clay, smooth contours and achieve the finish you're after.

With a selection of sizes and profiles available, you can choose a rib that suits your hands, your technique and the forms you enjoy making. From broad, sweeping curves to smaller, more precise shaping tools, each design offers something a little different.

Made from recycled rimu, these ribs are also a lovely way to bring reclaimed timber into the ceramics studio. Because each piece is handmade from natural wood, expect variations in grain, colour, tone and shape. These are part of the character of the material, so your rib may look slightly different from the product photo.
