Sodalite is a sodium aluminum silicate mineral. While it is tough enough for most jewelry, its moderate hardness means it requires thoughtful handling to maintain its deep blue luster:

• Mohs Hardness: Sodalite has a hardness of 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale. It is softer than many other common gemstones, so it is best suited for pieces like pendants and earrings that are less likely to encounter direct impact.

• Cleaning: Clean only with lukewarm, soapy water and a soft cotton cloth. Always rinse the stone thoroughly to ensure no soapy film remains. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners, as sodalite is sensitive to high temperatures and pressure

• Maintenance:

  • Avoid Chemicals: Sodalite is particularly sensitive to acids and harsh household chemicals (like bleach or sulfuric acid). Always remove sodalite jewelry before cleaning or using beauty products.

  • Avoid Impact: Due to its brittleness compared to quartz-based stones, it can chip or crack if dropped on hard surfaces.
