This delicate dusky pink Tourmaline is precision-cut into a classic 3.5mm round with a notably deep 2.7mm height. Unlike the bright "bubblegum" pink of synthetic stones, this natural tourmaline features a sophisticated, muted rose hue - often referred to as "dusky" or "antique" pink. The substantial depth relative to its diameter allows for a deep pavilion, which helps concentrate the color and prevents the "windowing" (transparency in the center) often seen in shallower cuts.
Its petite size and understated, elegant color make it a perfect choice for high-end accent stones, dainty stacking rings, or as part of a multi-stone "omber" gradient design in a pendant or bracelet.
Key Properties & Care
Tourmaline is a complex silicate mineral known for its incredible range of colors. It is a prestigious gemstone that is both durable and beautiful, though it requires slightly more care than a Cubic Zirconia:
-
Mohs Hardness: Pink Tourmaline has a hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale. This makes it a "hard" gemstone suitable for rings and daily wear, though it should still be protected from heavy impacts.
-
Cleaning: The best way to clean tourmaline is with lukewarm water, a very mild soap, and a soft cloth or a soft-bristled brush. Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners; while many tourmalines are stable, some contain liquid-filled inclusions that can expand and cause the stone to crack under high-frequency vibrations or sudden heat.
-
Maintenance:
-
Avoid Extreme Heat: Sudden temperature changes can cause "thermal shock," which may lead to internal fractures.
-
Chemical Sensitivity: While fairly resistant, it is always best to remove tourmaline jewelry before using harsh household chemicals or swimming in chlorinated pools.
-
Light Stability: Natural pink tourmalines are generally very stable in light and will not fade, though they should be kept away from prolonged, intense heat sources.
-
-
Storage: Store your dusky pink tourmaline in a separate soft pouch. Because it sits at a 7.5 on the hardness scale, it can be scratched by CZs (8.5) and Sapphires (9), but it could also scratch softer stones like Turquoise or Amber.
