A substantial second hand post vice, also known as a blacksmith’s vice, designed for heavy-duty workshop work. Unlike a standard bench vice, a post vice is supported by a long steel post that is fixed securely into the ground or a solid mounting structure. This gives the vice excellent stability and allows it to absorb the force of hammering, filing and other demanding work without transferring as much vibration to the bench.
This makes post vices particularly well suited to blacksmithing, stone setting, jewellery work, metal fabrication and general workshop use. They are especially useful for tasks where you need to hold a piece firmly while applying pressure or working with a hammer.
The wide 90mm jaws provide a good working area, while the solid vintage construction makes this a genuinely sturdy piece of traditional workshop equipment. It would make a fantastic addition to a jewellery or metalworking studio, particularly for anyone wanting a dedicated vice for heavier work.
Dimensions:
- Total height: approximately 1 metre
- Height from mounting bracket to ground: approximately 800mm
- Jaw width: 90mm
A great combination of functionality and vintage workshop character, with the robust construction you'd expect from a traditional post vice.
